Shivarthik Oberoi stood before the floor-to-ceiling glass window of his corner office, his hands tucked into the pockets of his tailored charcoal suit. From the top floor of the Oberoi Industries headquarters, the city of Mumbai stretched endlessly beneath him like a sea of shimmering lights.
The roads below were alive with speeding cars, honking traffic, and people chasing dreams of their own. The city never slept, and neither did ambition.
A faint smile touched his lips as he looked at the skyline.
Years of relentless hard work, sleepless nights, sacrifices, and determination had brought him here.
Today, he had everything a man could ever wish for. Power. Respect. Wealth. A name that commanded admiration in every boardroom.
At just twenty-nine, Shivarthik Oberoi became the CEO of Oberoi Industries, one of Mumbai's most prestigious corporate empires.
Renowned for its billion-dollar infrastructure projects, the company was best known for its luxurious hotels and world-class hospitality ventures. Built on values of integrity, excellence, and tradition, Oberoi Industries was regarded as one of the most respected and conservative business houses in the country.
People admired his success. Competitors feared his decisions. The corporate world respected his name.
Yet, despite standing at the pinnacle of success, there remained a void that no achievement, no award, and no fortune could ever fill.
His eyes softened as he looked at the glittering city beyond the glass.
"Maa... kaash aaj aap bhi hamare saath hoti. Maine aapse vaada kiya tha ki main bahut bada aadmi banunga aur aapko har khushi dunga... par aap toh mujhe akela chhod gayi."
(Mother... I wish you were here with us today. I had promised you that one day I would become a successful man and give you every happiness... but you left me all alone.)
A lump formed in his throat.
"Kyun Maa...? Aap humein chhod kar kyun chali gayi? Aapke bina sab adhura-adhura sa lagta hai."
(Why, Maa...? Why did you leave us? Without you, everything feels incomplete.)
He closed his eyes for a brief moment, forcing himself to swallow the ache that still lingered after all these years. Success had taught him how to conquer the world—but it had never taught him how to fill the emptiness left by the loss of a mother.
Just then, the sharp vibration of his phone broke him out of his thought. The moment he saw the caller ID, the heaviness in his eyes disappeared, replaced by a warmth that only one person could bring.
A soft smile curved his lips as he answered the call.
"Hi, my princess! How are you?"
On the other end came the cheerful voice of his eight-year-old sister, Parinita Oberoi, the sunshine of the Oberoi family.
"Bade bhaiya, aap ghar kab aaoge?"
(Big brother, when will you come home?)
A smile spread across his face.
"Aapne kaha aur main abhi aaya, Pari."
(You asked, and I'm already on my way, Pari.)
"Ghar jaldi aana... hum sab aapka wait kar rahe hain."
(Come home soon... we're all waiting for you.)
"I'll be there in a few minutes."
"Promise?"
"Promise."
The little girl giggled happily before ending the call. Shivarthik looked at the phone for a second, his smile lingering.
No matter how ruthless he was in the corporate world, one call from his little sister was enough to melt the walls around his heart.
Five minutes later, after finishing the last of his work, he picked up his car keys, left his office, and stepped into the elevator and left for the Oberoi Mansion.
The place that wasn't just his home, but the only place where the CEO of Oberoi Industries stopped being a business tycoon and simply became a son... a brother... and a family man.
After 20 minutes of driving, he reached the mansion. As soon as he entered the living hall, Pari ran towards him and he scooped her up in his arms. She asked him in a very soft voice, "My chocolates?"
He made a fake regretting face and said,"Oh ! I forget that".
Pari immediately got down and immediately stepped away from him, crossing her tiny arms over her chest.
"Hmph! Go away. I'm angry with you," she huffed, pretending to be upset.
Deep down, however, she already knew her Bade Bhaiya could never forget to bring chocolates for her.
A smile tugged at Shivarthik's lips as he slipped a hand into the pockets of his coat and pulled out a handful of her favorite chocolates.
"Oh, is that so?" he teased, raising an eyebrow. "If Pari is really upset with me, then I guess I'll have to eat these chocolates myself."
Pari's eyes instantly lit up. Without wasting another second, she rushed towards him, snatched every single chocolate from his hands, and hugged them protectively against her chest.
"I knew it!" she grinned proudly. "You could never forget my chocolates."
Shivarthik chuckled softly before ruffling her hair with affection.
"Of course I can't," he said. "How could I ever disappoint my little princess?"
A chorus of gentle laughter echoed through the living room. The entire Oberoi family watched the adorable exchange with warm smiles on their faces.
Moments like these reminded them that no matter how powerful or intimidating Shivarthik Oberoi appeared to the outside world, he would always melt in front of his little sister.
The atmosphere was filled with warmth, teasing, and the comforting feeling of home. Soon, everyone gathered around the dining table for dinner, sharing stories and laughter throughout the meal. Once dinner was over, they exchanged good nights before retiring to their respective rooms, bringing another peaceful day at the Oberoi Mansion to an end.

8PM
On the other side of the city, Nishvika Mehra was driving back home after another long day at work. Soft music played in the background as she talked to her best friend, Myra Malhotra, over the phone.
"So," Myra said in a teasing voice, "when are you finally getting married, girl?"
Nishvika let out a dramatic sigh before replying, "Oh, stop it, yaar. (Oh, stop it, friend.) At home, Mom and Dad keep talking about my marriage all the time, and now you've started too. I don't want to get married until I find someone who matches my standards—someone I can look at and instantly feel, 'Yes... this is the man Mahadev has chosen for me.'
Myra laughed. "Girls like you set the bar so high that no poor guy can ever reach it."
"Aise ladke sirf kahaniyon mein hote hain, Nishu baby, asal zindagi mein nhi" (Men like that only exist in stories, not in real life.)
Nishvika chuckled, shaking her head as she carefully turned the steering wheel.
"Kya pta! Mahadev ne mere liye kisi khaas ki bacha ke rakha ho" she said with a soft smile. (But who knows? Maybe Mahadev has kept someone special just for me.)
The two burst into laughter. They continued chatting about work, old college memories, and random gossip for a few more minutes before finally hanging up.
By the time Nishvika reached the grand Mehra Residence, the exhaustion of the day had completely taken over her. She walked inside, dropped her handbag on the side table, and dramatically sprawled across the living room sofa.
Just then, her mother, Vaishnavi Mehra, walked in with a gentle smile.
"How was your day, Nishu?" she asked, lovingly brushing a strand of hair away from her daughter's face. "You look exhausted. Go freshen up. I'll serve dinner."
Nishvika nodded with a tired smile.
"Thanks, Mom."
After changing into comfortable clothes and washing away the fatigue of the day, she joined her parents at the dining table.
A moment later, her father, Adityaraj Mehra, walked in.
"How's my little princess doing?" he asked affectionately as he took his seat.
"I'm fine, Dad," Nishvika replied with a small smile. "Just the usual office stress."
He looked at her carefully before saying, "Don't take so much stress, sweetheart. Look at you—you've become so thin."
Nishvika immediately made an exaggerated, offended face.
"Dad!"
Both her parents laughed, and Adityaraj chuckled as he affectionately patted her head.
For a while, the dining table was filled with light-hearted conversations, laughter, and the comforting warmth only family could provide. It was moments like these that reminded Nishvika that no matter how tiring life became, home would always remain her safest place.
After dinner, everyone retired to their rooms for the night. As was her daily ritual, Nishvika picked up the novel resting on her bedside table. Reading had always been her escape—a world where impossible love stories felt believable and happy endings always seemed within reach.
Nearly two hours later, after finishing a few more chapters, she placed the bookmark carefully between the pages, switched off the bedside lamp, whispered a quiet "Har Har Mahadev," and slowly drifted into a peaceful sleep... completely unaware that destiny had already begun weaving the next chapter of her life.
